The EPON smart campus solution has been launched, promoting the "digital and intelligent" transformation of education and teaching

To meet the demands of "multi-terminal access", "teaching resource sharing" and "efficient campus management" in the construction of smart campuses, the passive optical network technology team has recently launched the EPON smart campus solution. This solution builds the core campus network through EPON passive optical network, achieving full coverage of the network in areas such as teaching buildings, libraries, dormitories and playgrounds. It simultaneously supports smart applications such as teaching interaction, campus security, and asset management. It has been implemented in a domestic university, with the campus network bandwidth increased by three times and teaching efficiency significantly improved. ​

In terms of network architecture, this EPON smart campus solution adopts a "three-layer networking" : The core layer deploys high-performance EPON OLT devices that support 10-gigabit uplink and can connect to the campus data center and the Internet; The aggregation layer distributes network signals to each building through optical splitters. The access layer connects the multimedia equipment in classrooms, the query terminals in libraries, the student computers in dormitories, etc. to the network through EPON ONU devices. The maximum number of access terminals supported by the solution reaches 100,000, meeting the multi-device networking needs of college teachers and students. Meanwhile, through QoS priority Settings, the bandwidth priority of teaching services such as live teaching and online classrooms is ensured to avoid network congestion affecting teaching quality. ​

In the smart teaching scenario, the application effect of the solution is remarkable: every classroom in the teaching building is equipped with 4K high-definition projectors and interactive whiteboards. Through the EPON network, teachers can access teaching resources (such as courseware and videos) from the campus data center in real time, and can also carry out hybrid online and offline teaching. Students can participate in classroom interaction through their mobile phones or tablets. The library has achieved high-speed borrowing of e-books and real-time search of academic resources through the EPON network, reducing the borrowing process from 10 minutes to 2 minutes. In terms of campus management, the solution integrates functions such as campus security monitoring, intelligent attendance, and asset management. Over 500 surveillance cameras on campus transmit video data in real time, and AI algorithms can automatically identify potential safety hazards within the campus. The intelligent attendance system, through facial recognition and EPON network, enables real-time upload of attendance data of teachers and students, increasing attendance efficiency by 80%. ​
