Recently, a team dedicated to the research and development of passive optical network technology announced that its full range of XPON solutions have completed a major upgrade. By integrating the advantages of EPON and GPON technologies, it has launched multi-mode compatible devices that support 10G EPON, XG-PON, and XGS-PON. It can meet the broadband upgrade demands of operators from "100 megabits to 1 gigabit" and has been applied in the construction of "gigabit cities" in many provinces across the country.
The core of this upgrade lies in the two-way optimization of "full-scenario adapted hardware" and "intelligent operation and maintenance system". In terms of hardware, the newly launched XPON optical line terminal (OLT) adopts a high-density port design. A single device can support the access of 128 optical network units (ONUs), with a port density 50% higher than that of the previous generation. At the same time, it supports hot-swswable modules, allowing operators to complete equipment expansion without downtime. The optical network unit (ONU) is further classified into three major categories: "Home Gateway Type", "Enterprise Access Type", and "Outdoor Waterproof Type". The home gateway type ONU integrates Wi-Fi 6 technology with a wireless rate of up to 3.6Gbps, meeting the demand for simultaneous networking of multiple devices. The outdoor waterproof ONU has passed the IP67 protection certification and can be directly deployed in the corridors and street cabinets of residential areas, adapting to complex outdoor environments.
The upgrade of the intelligent operation and maintenance system is equally crucial. This system, through the optical power monitoring and fault location sensors deployed on the OLT and ONU, can collect network operation data in real time. When problems such as excessive light attenuation and equipment offline occur, the system can automatically locate the fault point within 30 seconds, and the fault detection efficiency is 90% higher than that of traditional manual inspection. In the application case of an operator in a certain province, after adopting this solution, the broadband installation time was shortened from 4 hours to 1.5 hours, the fault repair time was reduced from 8 hours to 2 hours, and user satisfaction increased by 25%.
In addition, this XPON solution also supports "smooth upgrade to 5G". The OLT device reserves a 5G bearer interface and can be directly connected to the 5G base station backhaul network, helping operators reduce the cost of repetitive construction. According to statistics, up to now, this solution has served 30 million domestic household users, helping 20 cities achieve full coverage of "gigabit broadband". In the future, it will also extend to towns and rural areas, promoting the construction of digital villages.
